Central London lies around 48 km / 30 miles to the north of Gatwick Airport (LGW) and can be reached via a range of transport options, including buses, trains and taxis. The selection of accommodation in the city centre is almost bewildering. Hotels in the best locations can prove expensive, particularly when offering views of top London attractions, such as Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul's Cathedral, Trafalgar Square and the River Thames.
Budget options are available in central London, including several cheap YHA / HI youth hostels and a number of small bed and breakfasts. However, the best value accommodation lies outside of the city centre, with many small hotels and family run guest houses connected by the extensive London underground train network, better known as simply 'The Tube'.
